Since each therapist training is varied and often vast, if you don't see a massage technique listed which you are curious about, don't know which therapist to schedule with, or need help determining what will best serve your needs, please contact us to ask.

Common Fort Collins Massage And Bodywork Options available:

Lymph Drainge Therapy (LDT) or Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

This Fort Collins Massage and Bodywork technique is our specialty.  The therapist uses flat hands and simulates wave like movements while applying very gentle and subtle pressure and NO LOTION. This technique stimulates pathways for draining body fluid stagnation and is ideal in addressing swelling, detoxification, and low immune system function. For more details on the Fort Collins massage lymphatic techniques utilized in our office, please click the title above.  This technique was developed by Dr. Bruno Chikly and is very efficient and specific to what the therapist feels in the client's lymphatic system.  Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), a Vodder technique, may be also used by some LymphWorks therapists. MLD tends to be more structured and generalized.  These lymphatic specific techniques can often be applied through light level clothing such as yoga pants and t-shirts.

Why it may feel to some like we are just gently "pushing skin around", the profound effects of this technique are often felt upon standing up and once moving around and up to 7 to 10 days afterward as the body detoxifies and removes the debris from it's tissue through the lymphatics and detoxification pathways.

Lymph Massage

The combination of Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT) or Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) techniques used in conjunction with therapeutic Massage techniques and lotion.  A combination of both deep to superfiscial or light will enhance the circulation of blood and lymphatics of the body.  Highly detoxifying and very relaxing.  Can be supportive in removing inflammation from chronic areas of pain or tightness.  This combination of techniques is done directly upon the skin to an unclothed client.  The amount of lymph drainage integrated into other Fort Collins Massage techniques used in your session will be determined between the client and therapist based on the clients needs and health history.

Lympho-Fascial Release (LFR) and Lympho-Visceral Release (LVR)

Advanced techniques taught by the Chikly Health Institute that gently target and release restrictions within and between muscles, tendons, ligaments, organ interfaces, and intra-organ restrictions for numerous viscera

Deep Tissue Massage

Fort Collins deep tissue massage works the muscles to release tension in the body. It is usually appropriate for chronic tension and pain patterns. Deep tissue massage is done with slow strokes and concentrated "appropriate" to deep pressure on the tense area to remove toxins, break up adhesions, loosen muscles and realign your body.

Pressure applied during your session should be maintained at a depth we refer to as "hurts so good" to "concentrate on your breath so you don't kick your therapist". This Fort Collins massage technique may result in soreness for a day or two following your session.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MFR)

"Myo" refers to muscle, and "fascia" to the elastic web of connective tissue that ties your body together. Myofascial release techniques relieve tension and pain by releasing and lengthening both muscles and fascia. These techniques are great for changing long time postural problems or misalignments. Techniques are usually performed without lotion and can be done on any layer of tissue from superficial (outermost) to deep. These massage techniques can include but are not limited to slow stretching of the fascia by pulling or pushing on your limbs or tissue. Fascia may also be released with flat hands, long smooth strokes and skin rolling.

According to John Barnes, MFR is a gentle yet effective technique addressing the myofascial restrictions in the body created by trauma and inflammatory responses. This Fort Collins massage technique is often integrated into your session based on needs and will rarely be used for an entire massage session.  We use various forms of MFR to release scar tissue, cellulite, and other connective tissue disfunctions.

CANCER MASSAGE or ONCOLOGY MASSAGE

Fort Collins massage and bodywork techniques include oncology or cancer massage which is bodywork designed specific to the needs of people who are dealing with cancer and / or its treatments. EXTREME caution is taken to make the sessions short and manageable for the client, the timing of sessions compliment other treatments (Oncologist), and care is taken in the prevention of Lymphedema (permanent swelling of a limb due to a damaged lymphatic system), assisting gentle detox, enhancing immune function, and helping the client get restful sleep.  Anxiety and stress reduction is also prioritized. We also focus on avoiding recently radiated tissue, avoiding ports, drainage tubes, and unhealed scars.  Scar release work techniques and gentle Range of Motion work begins 6 weeks post operation when scars are mature and as long as there are no complications.

VISCERAL MASSAGE or VISCERAL MOBILIZATION (Organ Massage)

This Fort Collins massage therapy technique may sound a bit creepy. However, your organs are suspended in your body via connective tissue (fascia) and ligaments. Due to trauma (i.e. car accidents, falls, surgery) or other stress, your organs may not have the mobility, motility and circulation they need to function at there best!

Visceral Mobilization is a gentle technique which ensures that the organs move and glide freely within your body. Clients are treated either lying down or seated. The organs most often mobilized is the liver and intestines. Sometimes, Lymph Drainage Therapy may be added to this technique to ensure proper fluid flow to and from your organs.

French osteopath, Dr. Jean-Pierre Barral was credited in Time Magazine as one of the next wave of alternative medicines "new innovators" with his research and documentation of visceral techniques. Barral indicates that visceral manipulation may help with a variety of problems, from chronic back and joint pain to indigestion, infection, incontinence, migraines and even impotence and sterility.

Visceral techniques will rarely take up an entire session and are used as an adjunct to support other work.  If you are looking for advanced visceral work and internal work such as pelvic floor release, please see our resources page for referrals.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY (CST)

A light touch therapy that can be performed while the client is clothed. This Fort Collins Massage and Bodywork technique was developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies, CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the physiological body system called the craniosacral system. The system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using soft touch the therapist can release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body's natural healing processes, “CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including but not limited to: migraine headaches, chronic neck and back pain, motor-coordination impairments, central nervous system disorders, orthopedic problems and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.”

BREAST MASSAGE

Gentle and discrete lymphatic breast care which is ideal for maintaining healthy breast tissue, reducing pain, swelling and other menstrual, pregnancy, or surgery related breast problems. Regular breast massage may help prevent and detect breast cancer and will boost immune function.  This Fort Collins Massage technique is often requested for those post breast cancer treatment.

These techniques focus on reduction in swelling, increasing range of movement, scar tissue reduction and realignment, drug or anesthesia detox and pain management, and immune system boosting techniques.  We are adept at modifying client needs based on the unique surgical history you may have had.

Massage Cupping

Known as "moving cups" using silicone or glass and oil, cupping uses suction (negative pressure) to lift, spread and decompress many layers of tissue to affect the lymph, blood, fascia, muscle, scars, and skin.  Cupping can be used as a stand-alone therapy or combined or "added-on" to other techniques such as lymphatic drainagetherapeutic massage, and energy healing.
